Yes You Can! A Triathlon for Breast Cancer
What’s in your bucket list?
There are many things that we wish we could do but couldn’t. The lack of time, energy, money or will power often renders the bucket list just as it is… a list. But we make the list anyway, because once in a while, life throws us an opportunity to make one come true and we must be ready to grab it when it does!
So how about a triathlon in July?
Triathlons are often perceived as something reserved for “real” athletes – those who spend every available moment running, biking and swimming. Normal, everyday people feel that they will never be fit enough to run, bike and swim next to these super human beings. However, on July 13, 2014, the Breast Cancer Care foundation will give you an opportunity to do just that plus help raise funds and awareness for the disease.
Set in the beautiful Dorney Lake in Windsor, the Shock Absorber WomenOnly Triathlon is a non-daunting and a guaranteed good time for participants. It will challenge you to go beyond your fitness comfort zone on your own pace by offering different distances for the swim, bike and run events. You can even make it a team effort with their relay challenge! Team up with 2 of your best girl pals and conquer the 800 meter swim, 30 kilometer bike and 7.5 kilometer run relay.
The fitness experts working with the foundation recommends at least 8 weeks of training to ensure that you are 100% ready for the challenge. Don’t worry, they know you think you aren’t cut out to participate, that’s why they are providing a detailed training plan, stretching guide and other resource materials to get you ready for the event.
After signing up at the event’s website, the team will send you a package that will not only help you train, but raise funds as well. There is no minimum amount of money that you have to raise in order to qualify – they just want you to try your hand at it! Help raise funds and awareness in your community with gold old fund raising events or do it online with the help of the Just Giving website. The JG website is a great tool to fund raise because it gives you the opportunity to reach out to people beyond your neighborhood – you can even get family and friends abroad to join in the fun.
It’s never too late to try new things or go after your dreams… and if doing a triathlon is on your bucket list, you definitely shouldn’t miss this event.
